Croatia Joins the Eurozone

Croatia Joins the Eurozone

As of January 1, 2023, Croatia's currency will be euro.

With the signatures signed at the ceremony held at the European Union (EU) Council building, Croatia officially joined the Eurozone. The ceremony was attended by Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, Valdis Dombrovskis, Senior Vice-President of the European Commission, Paolo Gentiloni, Commissioner for Economic Affairs, Zbynek Stanjura, Minister of Finance of the Czech Republic, EU Presidency, and Zdravko Maric, Minister of Finance of Croatia. On June 1, the European Union (EU) Commission noted that Croatia, a member of the EU since 2013, is ready to switch to the euro at the beginning of next year. This was made official with the signatures at a ceremony at the European Council building. Paschal Donohoe, President of the Eurogroup and Irish Finance Minister, said on June 16 that Croatia had fulfilled the necessary criteria and that the country would switch to the euro currency from January 1, 2023.
