American technology giant Google will send air strike alerts to Android phone users in Ukraine. The system, which was adapted from the Google earthquake warning system and developed jointly with the Ukrainian government, began to be implemented.
With the system, Android users in Ukraine will be sent air strike alerts directly to their phones before expected attacks happen near them.
Dave Burke, VP of Engineering at Google Android, said, "The alerts will be based on alerts already sent by the Ukrainian government and will be adapted from a system built to quickly send alerts about earthquakes."
The new early warning system has started to be implemented and will be activated across the country in the coming days.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Google has reduced its presence in Russia, including stopping all ad sales and removing Russia's state-funded media apps from Google Play in Europe.
"We work to support people in Ukraine through our products, defend against cybersecurity threats, uncover high-quality, reliable information, and ensure the safety and security of our colleagues and families in the region," Google said in a statement.
