Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the leader of the CHP, issued a statement on refugees.

CHP Leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu made statements regarding the return of refugees. Kılıçdaroğlu stated that they will make peace with Syria, they will open mutual embassies, they will build regions to which Syrians will return with EU funds, a protocol will be made for the safety of life and property of those who return, and they will create job opportunities. CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu met with university students in Istanbul. Answering the questions of the students, President Kılıçdaroğlu gave the following statements: “First let me make a correction; The incoming refugees are not immigrants. Due to the civil war in Syria, people did not want to spend their lives in a war environment, they wanted to ensure their safety; it could not be provided, so they went to our neighbors, Jordan, other countries. Those who came to us did not want to stay with us, they wanted to go to more developed countries, countries with a culture of democracy. They want to go west, to Germany, France, Canada, America, Holland, Sweden. If you let go, no one will stay in Turkey. In other words, they want to escape from a place where there is oppression and go to countries where there is no oppression, where the culture of democracy is developed and where per capita income is high. But when they couldn't make it, they stayed with us, and Turkey, for one, remained as a prison for refugees. We are in that position right now. They can't go anywhere because we signed the re-admission agreement, if anyone goes there, they take them and return them back to us. Unfortunately, we signed this return agreement. The fact that they are staying in Turkey and in such large numbers poses a threat to Turkey; It's a risk for them too, it needs to be fixed. These individuals need to be able to live freely and safely in their own nation, within their own culture. What method and approach should be used for this? The method, in our opinion, is as follows: One; We will immediately sit down and make peace with Syria. We will open mutual embassies. What is the situation with Syrians in Turkey, what is their status, and under what terms can they return to their homeland? Will their lives and property be safe if they return to Syria from here, or will they return to a war-torn country? We'll get down and talk after the first embassies open, and we'll sit down and negotiate a contract to ensure the safety of lives and property so that they can return to their own countries. This deal will not simply be between Syria and Turkey; we will also request UN intervention. Is it enough? No. We have to take a second step. When they go to their own country, they must have roads, kindergartens, schools and hospitals. None of these exist; we must complete all of them. This will be done with funds from the European Union. We'll join the European Union and take a seat. When they asked me about Syrian refugees when I travelled to Europe, I openly and clearly blamed them for this situation. 'You were silent while people were killing each other and blood was coursing through the streets in Syria. But when the Syrians started coming to you, you broke the hell out. Now you are saying; Why are the Syrians coming? Why didn't you intervene to prevent or stop the war when the war broke out in Syria? I said, 'This is not in line with the ethical values of Europe'. I told them: ‘We will send the Syrians to their own country. Their roads, schools, kindergartens… You will have to give us money, so that we will use this money and create a place where they can live. You can make all kinds of audits, all our expenditures will be transparent. Therefore, those who will build these schools and kindergartens will be our contractors, we will go out to tender and they will come and do it. Is it enough? No its still not! These people need the safety of life and property. For the safety of life and property, we need to sit down and make a protocol with the central government, that is, with the Syrian government. The United Nations should also be involved. When these people come to their own countries and settle in their homes, there will be no political interference or pressure on them, and we will get this security. Is it enough? Still not enough. These people need jobs. Previously, businessmen from Gaziantep had many factories there, we will encourage them again. We will say, 'You go, rebuild the factories and let these people work there'. Therefore, they will have homes, roads, schools and hospitals in their own country. There will be security of life and property, therefore, they will live in a more comfortable and peaceful environment.”
