Legal Services Can Be Delivered with Singapore Metaverse!

Minister Tong delivered a speech at TechLaw Fest 2022's 'Raise Your Game' themed event. Tong emphasized that conducting legal proceedings virtually and online has gained ground since the COVID-19 pandemic. He also said that with the growing popularity of Metaverse innovation, it is planned that Singapore will one day have an integrated Metaverse platform for legal services.

A key use case envisioned for the metaverse platform is dispute resolution, where Singapore's legal system is a leader. It was emphasized that an integrated platform would make the entire dispute resolution process easier. Tong expressed his belief that this initiative will make it more efficient and keep pace with how the rest of the world is developing. An integrated platform will be easily available to hold information on various dispute resolution mechanisms. Examples of use include filing the case, identifying arbitrators, mediators, experts and witnesses. It is also planned to add options such as communicating with the parties, booking facilities and making payments, according to the statements. Tong noted that other Metaverse-related technologies, including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and NFTs, could also be game-changers in the legal system. However, the minister said Singapore would need to see high demand from businesses to embark on such a project. Tong stated that if businesses need an online replica of what Singapore can offer in physical space for replication in the Web3 space, they plan to build one.

Legal Sector and Web3

As Singapore considers the possibilities, Metaverse platforms continue to explore use cases in the legal sector. Earlier this year, Decentraland hosted the first marriage ceremony in the Metaverse virtual world. However, the union did not legally recognize this marriage. Singapore is not the only country considering offering government services in the Metaverse or deepening its adoption. South Korea has set aside a budget of $117 million to promote Metaverse innovation. One of its projects is to build a Web3 portal for government service in the city of Seoul. In addition, Japan has recently announced that it has begun work on building the country's business environment for the Metaverse. In this context, it established a Web3 Policy Office to oversee all initiatives.   Source: nfxhaber.com
