Russian gas supplies to Germany via Yamal have stopped again
Deliveries of Russian gas to Germany via the Yamal gas pipeline stopped again on Saturday morning, according to data from the German gas network operator Gascade.
The gas pipeline, which runs from Russia through
Poland to Germany, is working in reverse mode again, as it did during most of this week. This means that the gas flows from west to east.
Mallnow Station, which is close to the Polish border and uses gas from Yamal, stopped sending gas from Poland to Germany on Saturday morning, Gascade data showed. Instead, gas is now flowing from Germany to Poland.
Yamal started working in reverse mode last Saturday, which lasted until Thursday, when supplies to Germany resumed, although significantly below the capacity of the pipeline.
This week, the price of the reference European gas contract on the Dutch stock exchange increased by up to 23% compared to its closing price on Friday (October 29).
Some European politicians claim that Russia is deliberately not increasing gas supplies to Europe. In this way, they say, they are pushing Germany and the European Union (EU) to approve the operation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which is to transport gas directly from Russia to Germany.
Russian gas exporter
Gazprom PJSC denies this and repeatedly claims that it is fulfilling its contractual obligations, which was also confirmed by companies in Poland and Germany, which were contacted by the Bloomberg agency.
Russia has promised to start sending more gas to Europe when it completes refilling domestic tanks, which should happen by Monday.
