The North African country of Morocco has announced that it aims to generate 80 percent of its electricity with renewable energy sources by 2050.
Morocco has so far invested 5.2 billion dollars in solar energy projects. In an interview with Forbes, Morocco's Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, said she wants the country to be "a destination for renewable energy". She added that she is proud to support both large-scale and local projects, including solar rooftops. Today, Morocco generates 4,030 MW of renewable energy out of its total generation capacity of 11,000 MW, with an additional 4,516 MW of renewable energy built or planned in the country.
