South Korea said the Covid-19 vaccines developed by AstraZeneca (NASDAQ: AZN) Plc and Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) were 86,6 % effective in preventing infections among people over 60. The Korean Agency for Disease Control and Prevention (KDCA) published an analysis Wednesday. Accordingly, the Pfizer vaccine, developed in partnership with BioNTech, prevents infection by 89,7 % two weeks after the first dose is administered. The rate of effectiveness of AstraZeneca vaccine in preventing infection is at the level of 86,0 %. Analysis studies lasting two months included 521,133 people over 60 who received their first dose of Pfizer PFE (NYSE) $40.97 +1.02(+2.57%) or AstraZeneca AZN (NasdaqGS) $53.34 +0.41(+0.77%) vaccine. Stating that there were 1,237 Covid-19 cases in the data, only 29 of them were from the vaccinated group, KDCA stated the following statements: “The results show that both vaccines provide high protection against the disease after the first dose. Since the protection rate will increase even more after the second dose, people should have their vaccinations according to the recommended schedule. " Speaking on Wednesday, Health Ministry official Yoon Tae-ho said that most past deaths were aged 65 and over, but now precautions can be taken with vaccines.

South Korea said the Covid-19 vaccines developed by AstraZeneca (NASDAQ: AZN) Plc and Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) were 86,6 % effective in preventing infections among people over 60.

Stating that the likelihood of side effects such as blood clotting is "extremely low", Tae-ho emphasized that this condition can often be cured. South Korea has so far vaccinated just 6,7 % of its 52 million strong population. However, it aims to increase this rate to 70 % by September and reach full immunity until November. Starting Wednesday, South Koreans who have been fully vaccinated and have shown a negative Covid-19 test will be exempted from two weeks of mandatory quarantine when they return from overseas travel to encourage further vaccination. The KDCA reported 676 new Covid-19 cases as of midnight on Tuesday night, bringing the country's total infection to 124,945, with 1,847 deaths.
