'THY' is also flying high in the stock market
The market capitalization of 504 companies traded on Borsa Istanbul is 4 trillion 14 billion liras, equivalent to 216 billion in dollar terms. The weight of holdings in affecting the index increased. THY ranked first in terms of impact on the index.
Borsa Istanbul is experiencing one of the highest increases of the last 20 years in TL terms. The index has risen 95 percent since the beginning of the year. The last time this rate of increase was observed was after the 2008 crisis. The increase of the index in TL terms was realized above inflation. There was also a 40 percent outflow in dollar terms.
So which stocks did the index rise with? The shares included in the
BIST 100 Index have changed four times since the beginning of the year. The stocks that meet the index criteria differed on January 1, April 4, July 7 and October 1. However, the main stocks with a high weight in the index remained unchanged.
At the beginning of the year, the weight of Turkish Airlines on the index was 2.95 percent. It rose to 3.96 percent in the period starting with April. In the period starting in July, it rose to 5.65 percent, while the rate rose to 6.93 percent in the period starting in October. Turkish Airlines is increasing its weight on the index day by day. This situation causes the index to be more affected by the ups and downs in the stock. While THY has become the stock that affects the index the most, it also significantly affects the movement of the index with its decline and rise.
