In the statement made by Microsoft, it was stated that an agreement was reached to purchase the game giant Activision Blizzard, known for its popular games.
Microsoft will pay $95 per share for the gaming giant, making it the largest acquisition in its history. Blizzard, which produces games like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, has been experiencing cultural turmoil lately because of its attitude towards women. While it is stated that the CEO of the company, Bobby Kotick, will remain in his position, following the acquisition agreement, the company will be subordinate to Phil Spencer, the head of the Microsoft gaming division.
It is stated that Microsoft, which incorporates the popular games owned by Blizzard, wants to strengthen its position against Sony Corporation's PlayStation by making its Xbox game console more attractive in this way. Blizzard's history with the Xbox goes back a long way. Call of Duty, the most popular product of the game giant, owes most of its success to Xbox Live, Microsoft's online platform. Most of Blizzard's games are released on the Xbox platform.
Microsoft said in a statement, "This acquisition will accelerate the growth of Microsoft's gaming business in mobile, PC, console, and cloud, and create the building blocks for the metaverse."
One of the legendary manufacturers in the gaming industry, the firm has been dealing with a number of issues in recent months, one of which includes cases of gender discrimination and harassment. The company postponed its two most anticipated games in November, and the sales figures for the fourth quarter fell short of expectations, causing its shares to crash.
