It is stated that energy bills in the UK will increase by more than 50 percent in April.
The British energy inspection agency, Ofgem, reviews the upper limit on energy bills every 6 months. In a statement issued today, the institution stated that prices will rise by 54% in April. This means a record increase.
With the new regulation, there will be a 54 percent increase in the household's energy bill, which averages between £1,277 ($1,730) and £1,370 per year. This would increase the household's average annual bill by more than £700.
Last year, natural gas prices in Europe rose to a record level due to declining stocks and reduced gas flow from Russia to the EU. In particular, England, one of the countries that suffered the most from this crisis due to its dependence on energy.
Jonathan Brearley, CEO of Ofgem, said, "We know this increase will be particularly worrying for many financially challenged people."
Rising energy bills will also put pressure on inflation, which is currently at a 30-year high.
