Virgil Griffith, who has worked on the Ethereum network for years and is the founder of the WikiScanner platform, was detained in the USA in 2019 after a speech he gave in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. Griffith was sentenced to a total of 63 months in prison on charges of making recommendations on cryptocurrencies to circumvent embargoes. He will also pay $100,000 in compensation. There is a 14-month bail period within the 2-year detention period. The remaining 10 months will be counted by doubling as it passed under difficult conditions.
