EU Has Not Renewed Its Orders of AstraZeneca
Thierry Breton, the European Commission's Internal Market Representative, announced that the EU has not renewed the AstraZeneca order.
EU has not renewed its orders of AstraZeneca. The European Union (EU) has decided not to renew its agreement with AstraZeneca, with which it previously had a supply problem.
Thierry Breton, Representative of the European Commission Internal Market, stated that the vaccine order from AstraZeneca for after June has not been renewed. The Association announced last month that it has initiated a legal process against AstraZeneca for not delivering the promised dose of vaccine.
Finally, the Association approved the contract that will provide a total of 1.8 billion doses, 900 million of which are optional, from the vaccine developed by BioNTech-Pfizer against the coronavirus epidemic.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Union Commission, stated in her post on the social media that a new contract has been signed with BioNTech-Pfizer for the purchase of coronavirus vaccine.
Giving the message that vaccination studies are progressing successfully in Europe, Von der Leyen stated that additional doses will be used in immunity-boosting vaccines, to combat emerging new variants, and to vaccinate children and young people.
Von der Leyen stated that the EU Commission has approved a purchase agreement with BioNTech-Pfizer for the years 2021-2023 for a total of 1.8 billion doses of which 900 million doses are optional.
Including options, the EU has a contract to receive a total of 2.4 billion doses of vaccines from BioNTech-Pfizer, 400 million from
AstraZeneca, 400 million with Johnson&Johnson, 300 million from Sanofi-GSK, 460 million from Moderna and 405 million from CureVac.
