EU Retail Sales Decreased in September
EU retail sales decreased in September. Sales, which fell due to coronavirus measures, decreased by 1.7 percent compared to the previous month.
The European Statistics Office (Eurostat) announced the retail sales statistics of the EU and the
Eurozone for September. According to the data announced, retail sales in the European Union (EU) fell due to the new type of Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak measures. Sales decreased by 1.7 percent in September compared to the previous month.
In this context, retail sales in the Euro Zone, which has 19 members, decreased by 2 percent in September compared to August, and increased by 2.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the European Union, retail sales decreased by 1.7 percent in September compared to the previous month, and increased by 2.1 percent compared to the same period of 2019.
Among the EU countries, the highest increase in retail sales in July compared to the previous month was seen in Bulgaria with 2.8 percent, Portugal with 1.9 percent and Romania with 1.7 percent.
The sharpest decline in retail sales was observed in Belgium with 7.4 percent, France with 4.5 percent and Germany with 2.2 percent.
