EU Takes Legal Action Against Britain
The European Union initiated a legal action against England on the grounds that Brexit was violated.
EU takes legal action against Britain. The
European Union announced that after the UK postponed the implementation of a significant part of the Brexit agreement on Northern Ireland, it started legal action against the UK.
It was noted that Britain's unilateral decision may result in financial penalties or the implementation of trade tariffs. It is predicted that this dispute will worsen the already problematic relations between the EU and the UK regarding the export of coronavirus vaccines. The post-Brexit trade agreement, signed by both parties on December 24, was put into effect on January 1, but the deal has not been officially approved by the EU.
Speaking to reporters in Brussels on Monday, an
EU official said the bloc sees Britain's activities as a major problem, raising doubts about Britain's commitment to the Northern Ireland part of the Brexit agreement.
Northern Ireland remained in the EU's customs union and single market under the Brexit deal. The decision eliminated the need for border controls in commercial activities between the European Union and Ireland, and caused delays and disruptions in goods arriving from the UK to Ireland.
