The European Union is preparing to fine WhatsApp. The application may be penalized for not informing users sufficiently.

It was informed that WhatsApp, the world's most used messaging and calling application, could be fined up to 50 million Euros for violating the European Union (EU) data protection rules. In an article on Politico's website, it was stated that the data protection agency in Ireland, where WhatsApp's headquarters in Europe is located, is continuing its investigation of the company's use of personal data. It was pointed out that the investigation was initiated because the WhatsApp application made mistakes in sharing personal data with Facebook and did not inform users in Europe adequately, and that this is against the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which entered into force in 2018 across the EU. In the article, it was noted that the Irish Data Protection Authority held talks with relevant authorities in other EU member countries about the penalty that may be imposed on the company, and that WhatsApp could be subject to fines between 30 and 50 million Euros for violating the transparency requirements in the EU personal data rules. In the article, which pointed out that with the decision of the European Union (EU) data regulators, WhatsApp will also have to change the way it uses personal data, and it was stated that the said fine is foreseen to be announced this year. On the other hand, in the news in question, it was pointed out that Facebook has allocated a resource of 77.5 million Euros for the fines that may be forced upon WhatsApp in its financial reports.
