President of the European Council Charles Michel visited Beirut, one of the biggest disasters of recent years, and pledged solidarity to Lebanon.
During his visit to Beirut, Charles Michel shared on his twitter account that Lebanon could count on the support of the EU.
"Lebanon can rely on European solidarity. Europe is by your side. I promise that Europe will stand by you for rebuilding."
Stating that the destruction in the region shook him, the President of the European Council did not neglect to say that he was impressed by the resistance of the people and the efforts of the rescue teams.
During his visit to Beirut, Michel met with Lebanese President Michel Avn, Speaker of the House of Representatives Nebih Berri and Prime Minister Hassan Diyab, and conveyed his solidarity promise to the authorities.
"All political forces must work together for the common good of the people by implementing reforms to create hope for a better future."
What Happened?
After a fire broke out in the Port of Beirut on August 4, 2020, there was an explosion that affected the whole city. According to the latest data, the explosion, in which 154 people died and 6 thousand people were injured, caused more than $ 15 billion in damage throughout the city.
After this explosion, the EU Union provided personnel and material support to Lebanon for search and rescue activities, in addition to this, it stated that it would support 33 million Euros.
