To date, 12.5 million doses of vaccine have been supplied to EU countries from the coronavirus vaccine developed by the German biotechnology company BioNTech with the production and distribution of the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer.
In addition to Britain, which started vaccination first, vaccination started in countries outside the EU such as Switzerland and Serbia.
Germany Officially Administered First Vaccine
Immunizations in Germany started before the official vaccination program in the European Union. 150 thousand doses of vaccines were provided to be applied in elderly care homes in the country.
Vaccinations in nursing homes in Harz, Saxony-Anhalt, started on Saturday. For the group, where two doses will be applied, more than 2 million doses of vaccine will be provided to the country by the end of the first week of January.
First Vaccination in France
The first
coronavirus vaccine administered in Paris, the capital of France. The vaccine was given to a 78-year-old woman who had been in a long-term care unit at the public hospital. In Italy, one of the European countries most affected by the epidemic, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which arrived on Saturday, was administered to healthcare professionals at Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital, the leading infectious diseases center in Rome, on Sunday morning. Spain to Supply 350 Thousand Doses of Vaccine Weekly
The coronavirus vaccine was administered to a 96-year-old woman in a nursing home in Spain.
According to the vaccination program determined by the Spanish government, the vaccines will be delivered to the country in the form of 350 thousand doses per week in the first stage and distributed to the autonomous administrations.
The priority in vaccines will be given to the elderly and staff in nursing homes, healthcare workers and the disabled.
Netherlands Will Begin Vaccination Later
While many countries that are members of the European Union start vaccinations, the Netherlands will not apply vaccines for vaccination until January 8. 10 thousand doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were supplied to the country at the weekend. Belgium and Luxembourg are expected to begin vaccination on December 28.
