Ex-Siemens boss Kaeser speaks out in favor of Baerbock
Ex-Siemens boss Joe Kaeser advertises the green candidate for Chancellor
Annalena Baerbock. "You have the greatest credibility for a sustainable and long-term renewal," said Kaeser of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung". He got to know Baerbock as a person who approaches and listens to business. In addition, she can quickly familiarize herself with traditional industrial topics such as steel, chemistry or energy technology and look for economical and sustainable solutions. "As far as her comprehension and interest are concerned, she reminds me a lot of our current Chancellor," said Kaeser. He considers all three candidates for chancellor to be of integrity and suitable. Baerbock, however, stands for a socio-ecological market economy that Germany needs.
"Your pragmatism is important when it comes to interrelationships: you see the ecological aspects, but also know that we are an industrialized country." The fact that Baerbock lacks government experience is not a decisive factor for him. "The past is not always helpful for the future," said Kaeser. The Union’s candidate for chancellor is CDU leader Armin Laschet, while Olaf Scholz is running for the SPD.
Since her nomination as a candidate for the Greens, Baerbock has lost approval in recent weeks. For example, she was sharply criticized for wanting to increase the price of gasoline by 16 cents. In the ntv trend barometer, it is further ahead, but its lead over Laschet and Scholz has shrunk by several percentage points. If the Chancellor could be directly elected, Baerbock would currently vote 24 percent, Laschet 19, Scholz 14 percent.
At the end of his tenure, Kaeser was criticized by climate protection activists as Siemens boss because the company was involved in the construction of a coal-fired power plant in
Australia. He was always ready for dialogue and even offered the Fridays For Future activist Luisa Neubauer a position on the Siemens Supervisory Board. However, she refused.
