Exhaust Emission Penalties are Increased
Exhaust
emission penalties are increased. The penalties given to the owners of vehicles that do not comply with the standards were renewed.
According to the statement made by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the fees for exhaust emission measurements carried out in 81 provinces and the penalties imposed on those who do not have measurements and the owners of vehicles with emission values above the standards were renewed. In the written statement of the Ministry, it was pointed out that the pollution caused by exhaust emissions from motor vehicles constitutes a significant part of urban air pollution.
According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (
TURKSTAT) data, there are 24 million 64 thousand 532 vehicles registered to traffic in Turkey. The exhaust gas emission measurement of these vehicles is carried out at stations in 81 provinces under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.
Total of 4 Million 808 Thousand 726 Lira Penalty was Fined
The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization measured the exhaust emission of 9 million 371 thousand 637 vehicles across the country within the scope of the audit in 2020.
Administrative fines were imposed on those who did not measure and the owners of vehicles with emission values above the standards. In this context, a total of 4 million 808 thousand 726 lira administrative fines were imposed on the owners of motor vehicles that did not have exhaust emission measurements or caused emissions against standards last year. The highest number of penalties across the country were imposed in Ankara, Hatay, Adıyaman, Uşak and Niğde.
Exhaust Emission Measurement Fee Increased
The new year brought a hike in exhaust emission measurement fees. While 80 TL was taken from each measurement made in 2020, the fee was determined as 90 TL this year.
In addition, with the new year, the amount of penalty, to be imposed on the owners of vehicles that do not have their exhaust emission measurements or whose emission values are higher than the standards in accordance with the Environment Law No. 2872, has been increased.
According to the new price tariff, the administrative penalty of 1895 lira imposed on motor vehicle owners who do not have exhaust emission measurement will be 2 thousand 67 TL, and a penalty of 3 thousand 791 lira for the owners of motor vehicles that cause emissions contrary to the standards set by the regulations will be applied as 4 thousand 136 liras.
8 thousand 272 lira will be fined for stations that measure against the determined procedures and principles, and 16 thousand 547 lira for those who make measurements without an authorization certificate and issue false documents.
