Experts record an increase in fraud related to covid vaccination
Experts record an increase in fraud related to covid vaccination. Cybercriminals are constantly looking for new ways to steal user data. While fraudsters made increased use of Covid-19-related spam and phishing sites last year, they focused more precisely on the vaccination process in the first quarter of this year.
This follows from a study by the cybersecurity company Kaspersky.
Experts have found different types of sites distributed worldwide. "The recipient received a spam message informing him that he was invited to be vaccinated or to take part in a survey, or to diagnose Covid-19," the experts explained.
For example, some users in the
United Kingdom received an email that appeared to come from the UK's national health service. It was an invitation to be vaccinated, and by clicking on the link they had to confirm that they wanted to take part in the vaccination. Subsequently, in order to obtain an appointment for vaccination, the applicant had to fill in a form with personal data, including payment card details.
"As a result, they passed on their personal and financial data to the attackers," the experts said.
The fraudsters also used fake surveys regarding the vaccination against Covid-19. The fraudsters sent out e-mails on behalf of pharmaceutical companies producing vaccines against
Covid-19 and invited users to take part in a short survey.
All participants were promised a gift for participating in the survey. After answering the questions, the victim was redirected to a page with a 'gift', the experts specified. However, in order to receive the gift, they had to fill out a detailed form with personal information.
Experts advise people to be skeptical about any unusually generous offers and promotions in this regard. "Always make sure the messages come from a reliable source," experts also recommend.
It's also a good idea not to click on links from suspicious emails and to check the authenticity of the websites that users visit. Don't forget the security solution with up-to-date databases.
