Facebook Shares Exploded Today.
Facebook knows we are still not 29 years old and has the artificial intelligence to prove it.
What happened
Shares of Facebook
FB (NASDAQ) $380,66 +8,03 (+%2,15) rose a small 2,3% as of 3 p.m. EDT on Monday.
While that might not sound like much, it brings a $1,1 trillion stock to $25 billion in extra market cap. (For context: If Snap moves that much in one day, its stock will go up more than 17%!)
So what
Let's take a look at the reasons why Facebook shares are so high.
This morning, Facebook announced that it will start asking Instagram users for their birthdays. (Facebook owns Instagram).
As the company went on to explain, Facebook said "everyone needs to know how old they are on Instagram" in order to "create new security features for teens". Facebook explained that when it knows a user's age, it can allow them to, for example:
Specifically, to prevent adults from sending messages to minors they don't follow, limiting ads to users under the age of 18 so they can show ads more relevant to the user's age.

Conclusion
At least two of these declared aims seem to aim at the safety of young people.
Third, it is likely to target better ad sales for Facebook.
Regardless, whatever Facebook's motivation, the company's announcement clearly means more data for Facebook, something that would probably make Facebook more valuable as an information company.
Despite all this, Facebook explains that it will only ask for birthday information from users who have not yet provided it.
This will end with users repeatedly asking for information until they consent or realize they can't use Instagram. However, Facebook also calculates that "some people may give the wrong birthday".
But this gamble may not work as well as you think.
In the future, Facebook is considering using artificial intelligence to predict how old people actually are based on the content of their posts.
It would be a mistake to think that you can still beat Facebook after all .In short: Big Brother is not only watching you and can now almost count the candles on your birthday cake.
