Famous Billionaire McAfee Struggles With New Charges
Famous billionaire McAfee struggles with new charges. 75-year-old McAfee thinks the new allegations against him are exaggerated.
The 75-year-old billionaire cyber security tycoon John McAfee, who is well known to the cryptocurrency world, is on trial for crimes such as tax evasion, fraud and money laundering. McAfee, now in a Spanish prison, claims that allegations made by US regulators are exaggerated.
SEC's Claims Are Exaggerated
McAfee, who is in a Spanish prison, is waiting to be extradited to the United States. When McAffe is extradited, he will fight charges of tax evasion, securities fraud and money laundering.
These securities fraud allegations stem from McAfee's introduction of cryptocurrency projects from December 2017 to October 2018. FBI Deputy Director William Sweeney suggests that the tweets of McAfee and the crypto team were a $ 13 million "pump-and-dump" operation.
Posting on his Twitter account today, McAfee says:
"The
US Securities and Exchange Commission's claims are exaggerated. My team evaluates each promotion by management, business plans and potential. Nobody could have predicted the collapse in the Altcoin market."
Reiterating his belief in cryptocurrencies promoted by Docademic, McAfee said, "Even if it crashed, I held every coin allocated to me. I never sold a single token. I believed in the company to the end." Denying the allegations of running a rapid pumping process, McAfee brought forward his former CEO Jimmy Watson (one of the names mentioned in the indictment) and said:
"I can only laugh against these allegations. Details are missing. Who were the users who wanted their money back? If you can't provide concrete data to support your claims, I can easily use the money you pay me in court."
However, New York attorney Audrey Strauss, who is not convinced of McAfee's protests for years, stated that McAfee and his team have introduced and pumped cryptocurrencies to hundreds of thousands of followers with "false and misleading expressions" to hide their real, self-interested motives.
