FDA Approved Pfizer / BioNTech Vaccine
FDA approved the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it allows the use of the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech against coronavirus.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized the use of the coronavirus vaccine developed by BioNTech and manufactured and distributed by Pfizer. In the statement made by the FDA, it was stated that the first vaccination is expected in a few days, and this is a turning point in the country where 295,000 deaths were recorded due to the epidemic.
The FDA has granted emergency use permission for the vaccine produced by
Pfizer's German partner BioNTech, which has been shown to be 95 percent effective in preventing disease. It is stated that the vaccine can be given to people aged 16 and over, while healthcare professionals and the elderly in long-term care facilities are expected to be the main recipients of the first round of 2.9 million doses this month.
BioNTech Chief Executive Officer Uğur Şahin stated that the vaccine in question "will help save lives and accelerate the return to normalcy in the United States."
In the US, health authorities, shipping services, hospitals and pharmacies are rolling out a nationwide vaccination campaign. Pfizer reported that shipping will begin immediately, and public health systems are planning to begin obtaining vaccines as of Monday.
The US government aims to accelerate vaccines in the coming weeks and months, especially if a second vaccine from Moderna Inc. is urgently approved. An advisory group at the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention will meet on Saturday to make important advice on whether certain groups, such as pregnant women and 16-year-olds, should be vaccinated.
