Vice President Fuat Oktay made the first statement regarding Joe Biden, who was elected the 46th President of the USA. Speaking at the Başkent Kulisi program presented by Kanal7 Ankara Representative Mehmet Acet, Oktay made the following statements regarding the new US president:
“When there is an election in any country, when someone changes, nothing changes for us. Turkey's own interest is its foreign policy. We had a very interesting election process in the USA. Turkey does not change anything in terms. Communication channels will work in the same way. There will be a transition period, of course. We had a coup attempt. The person who did that, is in America. There's nothing more natural than asking for a extradition. It is a process which started a long time ago and will continue with this management. We will increase our pressure by intensifying it. We hope that America will not continue to work with terrorist organizations. It uses its preference to work with states. America also acts in partnership with terrorist organizations in Syria. When we see a threat, we talk about it at first and then do what is necessary. We act with the facts are visible on the ground. We see some things in Biden's election manifesto that the work initiated in the previous period may continue. But after taking with the presidency, its policies become clearer, it is necessary to watch closely. We have regional problems with America. Syria, Iraq, Libya, Eastern Mediterranean, Azerbaijan-Armenia are included with Cyprus, Turkish-Greek relations. All this concerns us directly. The attitude of the new administration will of course affect and interest us. We are following this very closely. Our expectation is to avoid one-sided approaches.”
