Four European railway companies plan to strengthen the network of night trains
Four European railway companies announced on Tuesday that they plan to strengthen the network of night trains on the continent by reviving the routes they canceled a few years ago due to high costs.
The German railway company Deutsche Bahn and the main national train carriers in France, Switzerland and Austria have stated that from December next year they will resume routes from Vienna to Paris via Munich and from Zurich to
Amsterdam via Cologne.
Further international connections from Vienna and Berlin to
Brussels and Paris will be established in 2023, and a year later the line from Zurich to Barcelona will start operating.
The move represents a change in the attitude of Deutsche Bahn, which has phased out night rail services in recent years, failing to compete with many low-cost airlines due to unsustainable costs and lack of demand.
