French stocks fall at close; CAC 40 down 0.53
French stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday as losses in the Gas & Water, General Financials and Food & Pharma sectors dragged shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the French CAC 40 was down 0.53%, while the SBF 120 index was down 0.54%.
TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTEF), the session's best performer on the CAC 40, rose 2.07% or 1.03 points to trade at 50.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Bouygues SA (EPA:BOUY) added 1.24% or 0.37 points to 30.19 and Orange SA (EPA:ORAN) gained 1.19% or 0.12 points to 10.18.
STMicroelectronics NV (EPA:STM), the worst performer of the session, fell 5.23% or 1.96 points to trade at 35.45 at the close. Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin SCA (EPA:MICP) fell 3.46% or 0.96 points to close at 26.82 and Stellantis NV (EPA:STLA) dropped 2.50% or 0.37 points to close at 14.41.
The best performers on SBF 120 were Elior Group (EPA:ELIOR), up 6.55% to 3.32, Vallourec (EPA:VLLP), up 2.52% to 9.37 and Gaztransport et Technigaz SA (EPA:GTT), up 2.21% to close at 129.60.
The worst performers were STMicroelectronics NV (EPA:STM), down 5.23% to 35.45 in late trading, Faurecia (EPA:EPED), down 4.67% to 16.73 and Atos SE (EPA:ATOS), down 4.29% to 11.37 at the close.
On the Paris Stock Exchange, falling stocks outnumbered rising stocks by 323 to 215 while 101 stocks were unchanged.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged by 0.00% to a 52-week high of 18.96.
Gold futures for December delivery rose 0.36%, or 6.55%, to $1,811.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodity trading, crude oil for September delivery fell 0.96% or 0.87% to $89.89 per barrel, while Brent crude for October delivery dropped 0.81% or 0.78% to trade at $95.87 per barrel.
The EUR/USD pair was 0.23% changed to 1.02, while the EUR/GBP pair was 0.24% changed to 0.85.
US Dollar Index Futures were down 0.17% at 106.14.
