Gas Statement by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said, "South Stream was planned as four lines with a capacity of about 63 billion cubic meters. This potential can be used to deliver gas to European consumers via the Black Sea and Turkey, provided there is demand."
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak attended the "Russian Energy Week" forum organized in the capital Moscow. Making evaluations at the forum, Novak noted that Turkey and Russia have extremely good relations in the field of energy.
Speaking about Russia's proposal for Turkey to become an energy hub, the deputy prime minister said, "TurkStream's capacity is 31.5 billion cubic meters. One of the lines is for export to other countries. South Stream was planned as four lines with a capacity of about 63 billion cubic meters. This potential is the capacity that can be used to deliver gas to European consumers via the Black Sea and Turkey, provided there is demand and the relevant pipelines can be operated reliably and safely."
Commenting on the sabotage of TurkStream pipelines, Novak said, "The operation of the pipeline is the responsibility of the relevant company and they have the necessary security services. Their work for the safe and, in the current situation, reliable operation of the pipeline has been strengthened."
Novak underlined that high prices in natural gas are not a situation they desire and said, "We do not want high prices because if prices are high, alternative, renewable energy sources can be used faster."
