German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz is preparing new compensation for companies.
This is due to the proposed new restrictive measures to slow the spread of the new coronavirus.
Chancellor Angela Merkel is currently pushing for widespread quarantine measures in November that would negatively affect restaurants, bars, hotels and other establishments.
The proposal has yet to be approved by the administrations of the 16 German Länder.
Scholz wants to mitigate the economic consequences of the measures. According to his plan, small companies could claim 75% of the revenues they generated in November 2019. Larger companies would be entitled to 70% of lost revenues.
The value of the proposed compensation package, which is still being discussed by the federal government, is expected to reach € 7 billion to € 10 billion.
Experts warn that the second wave of the pandemic, which is greater than the first, could stop the recovery of the German economy.
