A survey was conducted by BDI on the energy costs of medium-sized industrial companies.

According to the survey, medium-sized industrial companies in Germany expect the burden of high electricity and gas prices to increase further.

In his assessment of the survey report, BDI President Siegfried Russwurm stated that rising electricity and gas prices threaten to suppress the economy.

Russwurm said that the end of the road has not yet been reached with the increase in electricity and gas prices. And he added, "BDI is afraid that the rapid increase in prices will affect the production in Germany more and more. The situation is so serious that even medium-sized companies from various sectors have to consider moving abroad."

Pointing out that the increase in energy costs in the country is at the highest level since the oil crisis in the 1970s, Russwurm called on politicians to take action.

Russwurm noted that the abolition of the tax deducted from consumers under the Renewable Energy Law in Germany was a correct and timely decision, but that this was not enough to relieve the industrial sector in the long run, and that the German government should review the network fee and other taxes.

Emphasizing that a comprehensive reduction of the energy-related burden on companies would be a quick and effective measure, Siegfried Russwurm said, "Less burden saves companies from bureaucracy, creates planning security and improves the quality of Germany in international comparison." made its assessment.

According to the data of the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), energy prices increased by 66.7 percent in January compared to the same period of the previous year. Electricity prices increased by 66.7 percent and natural gas distribution prices increased by 119 percent.
