Germany Evaluates Tariffs After Presidential Change in USA Germany is evaluating the tariffs after the presidential change in the USA. The country plans to postpone the customs duties it aims to implement. According to the news in Bloomberg HT, a senior official said that Germany plans to fix Transatlantic trade relations. It was also included in the news that the official stated that the European Union is looking for a middle way to postpone the customs tariffs put on $ 4 billion on American products. Germany is expected to raise this issue at the EU trade banks meeting to be held on Monday. At the meeting, trade relations, which have been problematic for 16 years regarding Boeing and Airbus subsidies, will be discussed and EU-US relations will be re-evaluated. Over the years, as a result of the commercial conflict between the union and the US administration, a $ 7.5 billion tax was imposed on EU products. Now, German Foreign Minister Heiko Mass says the government can make solid proposals to Washington for a "new deal" and the development of relations.   What Happened? The US had subjected the EU to customs duties after it won a case for illegal aid to French-based Airbus. At the time of Trump, the US took advantage of this practice and imposed a 15 percent tariff on Airbus aircraft and a 25 percent duty on French wine, Scottish whiskey and Spanish olives. Donald Trump had announced that if the EU responded to these taxes, it would give a harsher response. The World Trade Organization also gave the EU the right to impose customs duty last month for improper subsidies to Boeing.
