Online grocery delivery application startup Getir reported that it reached a unicorn status, exceeding $ 1 billion. Established in 2016, Getir is Turkey’s second venture to reach unicorn value by getting investment. Nazım Salur, the founder of Getir, announced at an online press conference that the company reached a valuation of 2.6 billion dollars thanks to the investment of 300 million dollars. Getir had received $ 128 million in a new funding round in early 2021 under the direction of Michael Moritz, one of the key investors in Silicon Valley. Using this investment for overseas growth, Getir was also opened to London. Getir application will start work in Germany, the Netherlands and France, and plans to start operations in Brazil in the second half of the year. Turkey’s first unicorn was Peak Games from the gaming industry. Zynga Inc bought the company for 1.8 billion dollars. According to the deal, the purchase was made for $ 900 million in cash and $ 900 million in Zynga shares.
