Google Meet and Zoom Will Work Together
Google has announced that Google Meet and Zoom will support interoperability this year.
American technology company Google is gearing up to roll out bi-directional interoperability between Google Meet and Zoom later this year. Once the preparations are complete, Zoom users will be able to join Google Meet meetings and Google Meet devices will be able to join Zoom meetings.
Google says this decision will make things much easier for users, making it as easy to use as clicking on a calendar item or adding a meeting code. At launch, admins will be able to enable this interoperability for their registered devices at no extra cost, while allowing trusted devices to easily join cross-platform calls. Initially, Google Meet interoperability will be supported across all Zoom Rooms on all platforms, and Zoom interoperability will only be supported on
ChromeOS-based Meet devices (with more supported products added over time).
Google says its aim is to improve the meeting experience and flexibility for both remote and on-site participants, and to make communication between users on different platforms more accessible.
Google Workspace product director Dave Citron said the following about the planned step:
"In the mixed workplace, organizations struggle to connect conference rooms to customers, partners or colleagues across organizations due to platform interoperability challenges. To help overcome this, we're working with our partners to give our customers as much flexibility as possible to connect with people inside and outside their networks. Last year, we launched bidirectional interoperability between Cisco Webex devices and Google Meet devices. We are continuing our Pexip support for Google Meet so that users can seamlessly join Meet meetings from a wide range of third-party video conferencing solutions."
