Hackers Infiltrated HP Servers To Mine Cryptocurrencies
Using the Log4J Java library vulnerability, hackers infiltrated HP servers to mine cryptocurrencies. 100 thousand dollars of
cryptocurrencies was mined.
The government took immediate action against the Log4J vulnerability, which came in handy for crypto hackers.
Illegal Mining With AMD EPYC Processors
According to reports, HP 9000 servers using AMD EPYC processors were hacked and the hackers placed Raptoreum mining software on the servers. Raptoreum software, which worked for 8 days, earned a total revenue of 110 thousand dollars.
As it is known, Raptoreum is a crypto currency that uses large caches and is a very suitable ground for Threadripper and EPYC processors. It has been stated that attackers can reach up to 400MH/s mining performance on servers. Thus, they have accumulated 3.4 million RTM cryptocurrencies. This amount corresponds to 30 percent of all RTM rewards in the 8-day period. On December 17, the situation was noticed and the servers were shut down.
It was stated that AMD processors were not affected by the Log4J vulnerability, but it is stated that the attackers somehow ran this software. Previously,
Amazon servers were hacked. It is a possibility that the Log4J vulnerability may cause more harm.
