Halk Bank Appeals to the Supreme Court in the US Case
Türkiye Halk Bankası Inc. appeals to the Supreme Court (Constitutional Court) with the decision of the federal and a higher court to reject the request for dismissal of the case within the scope of the "Foreign State Immunity Act" during the ongoing litigation process in the USA.
Halk Bank Appeals to the Supreme Court. Lawyers of Halk Bank filed an appeal on May 13, the deadline for their application to the Supreme Court. Halk Bank provided a petition to the Supreme Court and stated that they requested additional time to file an appeal. Supreme Court Judge Sonia Maria Sotomayor accepted Halk Bank's request and extended the deadline until 13 May.
Lawyers for Halk Bank had applied to the federal court, and then to a higher court, for the case to be dropped under the
"Foreign State Immunity Act", and stated that they would go to the US Supreme Court after the applications were rejected.
People's Bank was accused of
"violating US sanctions on Iran".
