Heavy Rains Increased Yields in Wheat and Sunflower

After the worldwide grain export crisis with Russia's invasion of Ukraine, good news came from Turkey. Increasing rains boosted grain yields and yield expectations increased.

While the irrigation problem was experienced in agriculture last year, the rains falling one after another in Thrace met with the soil, leaving a satisfactory yield for the grain crops planted. Thanks to the showers that have been effective in Edirne, Kırklareli and Tekirdağ at intervals for the last week, the soil has been saturated with water. The heavy rain that has been effective for a while in Thrace, one of Turkey's important grain production centers, put a smile on the face of the farmers. Rainfall in Kırklareli increased the expectation of high yields in wheat and sunflower. The rains, which contributed to the development of the cultivated crop, especially wheat and sunflower, pleased the producers. Kırklareli Director of Agriculture and Forestry Mehmet Aksoy said, "Last year, our wheat harvest was 640 thousand tons. We are targeting 740 thousand tons this year, that is, it will be 100 thousand tons more. Especially the last rains have been like a medicine for wheat and sunflower. Also we didn’t see any excessive precipitation, hail and flood risk."
