Heineken Brewery will lay off 8,000 employees
This number represents almost 10 percent of all employees of the company.
The Dutch brewery Heineken plans to lay off 8,000 employees worldwide. This number represents almost 10 percent of all employees of the company.
The reorganization and cost reduction comes after the company recorded a loss of 204 million euros last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
With restaurants, bars and pubs closed many times last year,
Heineken sold 8 percent less
beer than the year before. The company's revenues fell by almost 17 percent to 23.8 billion euros.
Another brewery, the Czech Budvar, recently reported on a completely different situation. Last year, despite the pandemic, it increased production by 3 percent to a record 1.73 million hectoliters. Demand for beer in tanks and kegs declined last year, but Budvar was able to satisfy the growing interest in bottled beer.
