Hong Kong markets fall after volatility, Asia-Pacific markets rise
Hong Kong stocks were volatile while mainland Chinese markets remained lower on Tuesday, while other major Asian markets rose after Wall Street's second consecutive positive session.
Hang Seng index In Hong Kong, it fell 0.1% to 15,165.59, down more than 5% after HSBC, which struggled to find direction earlier in the session, reported a drop in profit.
The Hang Seng Technology index was up about 2.96%.
Chinese tech stocks and the Hang Seng index in the US started the week sharply lower as investor sentiment shifted following the conclusion of China's party congress and the release of a series of delayed economic data.
Mainland China's Shanghai Composite 2,976.28, while the Shenzhen Composite lost 0.512% to 10,639.82.
Nikkei 225 It added 1.02% to 27,250.28 and the Topix rose 1.06% to 1,907.14. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 It rose 0.28% to 6,798.60.
South Korea's Kospi fell fractionally to 2,235.07, while the Kosdaq rose slightly to 688.85. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was nearly flat.
Inflation in Singapore rose 7.5% in September and core inflation rose 5.3%, according to official data released on Tuesday.
