Increase in the Number of Registered Cars

There was an increase in the number of cars registered in traffic. The data in question increased by 8.5 million in 19 years.

According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), the number of vehicles registered to traffic in 8 categories was 8 million 655 thousand at the end of 2002. While the total number of vehicles reached 16 million 89 thousand in 2011, it exceeded 24 million 144 thousand as of the end of last year. The number of motorcycles, which were in high demand during the coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic, rose to 3 million 512 thousand last year. The number of motorcycles was 1 million 46 thousand at the end of 2002.   Highest Increase Was In Trucks In the aforementioned period, the highest increase rate among registered vehicles was seen in pickup trucks, which are highly preferred in urban freight transportation. The number of vans, which was 875 thousand in 2002, reached 3 million 938 thousand at the end of 2020 with an increase of 350 percent. The number of tractors, which is considered as one of the indicators of modern agriculture, also increased in the said period and increased from 1 million 180 thousand to 1 million 958 thousand. The number of automobiles registered in traffic increased from 4 million 600 thousand at the end of 2002 to 13 million 99 thousand at the end of last year. The number of cars has increased by approximately 8.5 million in 19 years.   Increase in the Number of Buses The number of buses, one of the most used vehicles in intercity transportation, was 120 thousand in 2002, and by the end of 2020, it reached 212 thousand. The number of trucks used in heavy freight transportation and construction projects, on the other hand, increased from 567 thousand to 859 thousand in this period. While the number of minibuses, which is one of the preferred means of transportation in urban public transportation, was recorded as 241 thousand in 2002, it reached 493 thousand by the end of 2020. While the number of special purpose vehicles was 23 thousand in 2002, it was recorded as 70 thousand at the end of last year.
