Indices in the USA started the new week with a rise on October 19. At its opening Monday, the Dow Jones index traded at 28,690 points, with a 0.30 percent gain.
In the United States, the new week has started positively. The S&P 500 index rose 0.48 percent from 3,500.50 points and the Nasdaq index gained 0.70 percent, trading at 11,753.05 points.
Markets that closed the last week with a fluctuating course due to the tightening of measures in Europe due to the increase in the number of cases in the coronavirus epidemic and the uncertainty about the economic support package in the USA, started the new week with a positive course.
The rise in the indices affected the hopes of the stimulus package planned to be implemented in the USA as part of the fight against coronavirus and strong economic data from China.
While the
US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi continued over the weekend,
Pelosi announced that she gave President Trump administration until Tuesday to reach an agreement before the presidential elections to be held on November 3. Mnuchin and Pelosi are expected to hold a meeting today on the support package.
On the other hand, the Chinese economy expanded by 4.9 percent in the third quarter of 2020. Although the data on the growth performance of the country remained below the estimates, it pointed out that the recovery accelerated compared to the previous quarter.
