Indices In The USA Started The Day With A Decline
Indices in the USA started the day with a decline. Although macroeconomic data was better than expectations, indices declined.
At the beginning of the day, Dow Jones index lost value over 100 points and was traded at 31,406.07 points with a decrease of 0.37 percent. The S&P 500 index fell 0.52 percent to 3,912.03 points, while the Nasdaq index decreased by 1.01 percent to 13,906.02 points.
Indices remained negative, despite the macroeconomic data that exceeded expectations. According to the data released today in the USA, retail sales increased by 5.3 percent in January, above market expectations. Industrial production in the country increased by 0.9 percent on a monthly basis in January, above market expectations.
The Producer Price Index (PPI), on the other hand, recorded a monthly increase of 1.3 percent in January, the highest increase since December 2009.
Analysts pointed out that the increase in consumer spending and producer prices raised concerns about inflationary pressures, and reminded that the last meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee of the US Federal Reserve (
Fed) on January 26-27 will be monitored in the markets today.
