Inflation
Crisis in India. Despite the central bank's efforts to contain increasing prices and preserve the economic recovery, inflation has skyrocketed in India, as it has in practically every other country. Inflation increased for the seventh consecutive month, reaching its highest level since May 2014.
In the statement made by the Central Bureau of Statistics, it was stated that inflation rose to 7.79 percent in April.
The fact that inflation in India has been above the central bank's target level of 2-6 percent for four months caused a surprise interest rate increase decision last month.
Since last month, Central Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das has stated that containing rising prices is a more important priority than encouraging growth.
