According to the news published by Anadolu Agency, BiP owned by Turkcell became one of the three most downloaded messaging applications after the reactions to WhatsApp on social media.
Users' interest in BiP also affected Turkcell's shares. The company's shares gained 2.4 percent at the beginning of the week.
The BiP application enables many processes such as text messaging, voice and video calls, sending and receiving documents. The data stored in BiP is kept in Turkcell’s central data servers in Turkey.
What Happened?
Messaging and call application WhatsApp, announced that users in Turkey must accept the conditions of the application until 8 February in order to use the app. Stating that users who do not accept the updated terms and privacy policy of the application until February 8 will not be able to use the application, WhatsApp stated that this does not apply to users in the European Union (EU) countries. WhatsApp, owned by Facebook in the USA, sent a text to its users containing the new terms and privacy policy.
After this update, WhatsApp, which gained a reaction from its users, started to lose its users rapidly.
According to the information text on WhatsApp's site, the information collected from users of the application includes account information, messages, links, status information, transaction and payment data, customer support and other communications, usage and registration information, device and connection information, location information, cookies and information provided by the third parties.
