Interpol Enters the Metaverse!
Interpol, the International Police Organization, has entered the Metaverse. Interpol announced the launch of the first police Metaverse experience. Users will also be able to visit the office in Lyon. This new virtual world aims to investigate crimes related to the Metaverse. It will also offer users the possibility to receive training in different areas.
The Metaverse is being used for more than just entertainment and commercial purposes. At its 90th General Assembly in New Delhi, the International Police Organization Interpol announced the launch of the first police-focused Metaverse experience. The aim of this experience is to help law enforcement around the world. Interpol also wants to enable its members to experience the Metaverse in different ways.
According to Madan Oberoi, Interpol's director of technology and innovation, this will be key to the future of policing in virtual worlds. 'The Metaverse has the potential to transform every aspect of our daily lives, with enormous implications for law enforcement. But for police to understand the Metaverse, we need to experience it,' he said.
Interpol is concerned about new types of crimes that could be committed in the Metaverse, including crimes against children, data theft, money laundering, financial fraud, counterfeiting, ransomware, phishing, sexual assault and harassment. These crimes pose a significant challenge for the organization, as they are committed in ways that differ from the real world. The organization expressed particular concern for the safety of young people in the Metaverse, providing advice on how to maintain a clean ecosystem at the World Economic Forum.
Interpol Provided a Virtual Training!
There is another function that Interpol aims to provide in the Metaverse. This is the opportunity to instruct police officers around the world from a centralized location. It also means that, according to the organization, distance learning tasks can be more immersive and engaging for students. During the live demonstration of these possibilities, Interpol trained users to make the training more realistic. The training included demonstrations on travel document verification and passenger screening.
