Iran Wants The Legalization of Cryptocurrency Activities
Following the statements of the President of El Salvador, a similar move has been made by Iran.
Iran wants the legalization of cryptocurrency activities. After the President of El Salvador, who recently sent a video message to the Bitcoin 2021 event stating that they prepared a bill to make Bitcoin the national currency, this time a similar move has been made by Iran.
An unexpected move has been made by Iran, which stopped cryptocurrency mining until September 22 in order to prevent power cuts that occurred in the previous weeks. President Hassan Rouhani has demanded the legalization of cryptocurrency activities in the country.
“To Protect People's Capital...”
According to the news compiled by Iran's official news agency
IRNA, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani attended the meeting of the Economic Coordination Board.
At the meeting, where cryptocurrencies and mining were discussed, Rouhani said:
“Cryptocurrency activities should be legalized to protect public capital and ministries should start working on this issue quickly.”
Paying with cryptocurrencies is prohibited in Iran, but mining is allowed. However, because illegal mining activities could not be completely prevented, serious power outages occurred.
For this reason, Iran has completely banned cryptocurrency mining until September 22. Hasan Rouhani also noted that this ban could continue in the same way.
