Italians try new dishes during lockdowns, shopping mainly online
During longer lockdowns, the Italians improved their cooking skills and began baking pizza, bread or desserts by hand. According to a current Mastercard survey, 64% of respondents improved their culinary knowledge because they were forced to cook at home.
According to the survey, 71% of people tried new recipes during the lockdown, which they found on the
Internet or in cooking TV programs. More than half of the respondents (57.2%) used the pandemic for a healthier diet and 59.5% used new foods that they would never try before the lockdown.
According to the APA, the pandemic has also changed the shopping habits of Italians. One in three respondents bought food online for the first time, and 32% plan to buy food online even after the end of the
pandemic.
Three-quarters of Italians live in regions with strict pandemic restrictions and therefore use their free time to place their culinary creations on social networks.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the demand for yeast and flour has increased significantly, and the most popular tips on the Internet are for baking bread, pizza and pancakes.
Guides on video platforms help create new creations, which Italians then photograph and share on social networks.
