Item Weights in the Inflation Basket Updated
Item weights in the basket have been updated. Accordingly, the weight of the food in the inflation basket was increased.
Item weights in the inflation basket have been updated. Following the announced January inflation data, revisions were made regarding the weights in the inflation basket.
Turkish Statistics Institute (TURKSTAT) increased the weight of the food in the inflation basket, while reducing the weigt of alcoholic beverages, materials such as clothing and restaurants.
In 2020, the weight of the food in the inflation basket was increased from 22.77 percent to 25.94. The weight of transportation, which is the largest item after food, was reduced from 15.62 percent to 15.49 percent.
The weight of the housing in the inflation basket was increased from 14.34 percent to 15.36.
Along with food and housing, the weight of household goods, health and communication groups in the inflation basket was also increased.
The sharpest downside change occurred in the restaurants and hotels group. The weight of the restaurants and hotels group included in the
inflation basket was reduced from 8.67 percent to 5.91 percent.
