Japan and Britain Signs First Trade Deal After Brexit
Japan and Britain signs their first trade deal after Brexit. The two countries signed a bilateral Free Trade Agreement.
British International Trade Minister Liz Truss went to Tokyo and met with Japanese Foreign Minister
Motegi Toshimitsu.
In this meeting, a mutual Free Trade Agreement was signed, which was agreed in September and planned to enter into force as of January 1.
At the joint press conference held after the meeting, Truss used the following statements:
“The deal opens the Pacific doors to British business and sets the stage for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).”
Motegi said, "Japan welcomes the UK's interest in TPP and will continue to provide the necessary support in this regard."
The agreement in question will enter into force at the beginning of next year, after local procedures.
The first negotiation for this agreement was held in June, and in August, the details of the agreement were finalized, and unity was achieved in the videoconference held in September.
As a result, the Free Trade Agreement became the UK's first trade agreement, which will leave the European Union (
Brexit) early next year.
