Japanese Yen Continues to Fall Despite Intervention
The Japanese Yen is melting against the dollar despite announcements of intervention. The yen continues its course at 32-year lows.
The Japanese Yen fell more than 1 percent against the dollar today, despite statements that the authorities would intervene to stop the decline in the currency. The yen remained at a 32-year low of 151.80.
It is explained that exceeding the psychological level of 150 in the yen may increase the pressure for the authorities to intervene. While Japanese officials repeated their warnings about the sharp depreciation of the yen against the dollar, Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki stated that he was monitoring the exchange rate more frequently and "carefully".
The next big catalyst for the currency will be the Bank of
Japan's meeting next week. Japan intervened in the FX market last month after the yen, which had depreciated sharply due to its divergent monetary policy with the US, crossed the 145 level.
