Kalın BOTAŞ: (Payment Deferral in Russian Gas) Negotiations Continue
Presidential Spokesperson Ibrahim Kalın stated that the negotiations regarding the postponement of BOTAŞ's Russian gas payments to 2024 are continuing.
Presidential Spokesperson Ibrahim Kalın responded to a question about the postponement of BOTAŞ's Russian gas payments to 2024 by saying,
"They are in talks. Contacts and negotiations continue. We have no shortage of energy."
Kalın, who made statements on A Haber, stated that he shared Russia's concerns about the Ukraine grain corridor agreement with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
Turkey has been asking
Russia to postpone some of Ankara's natural gas payments in order to reduce the damage caused by high
energy prices.
According to officials, Turkey's energy importer, BOTAŞ, is in talks to spread some of the payments over maturities up to 2024.
The talks between the two countries came on the heels of an agreement allowing BOTAŞ to pay 25 percent of its payments in rubles instead of dollars. Stating that the process is ongoing between the parties, officials said it was not yet clear whether Turkey's demand would be met.
