Carrying its global sales by 6.5 percent to 2.78 million units in 2021 compared to the previous year, Kia aims to sell more than 3 million vehicles in 2022. Increasing its global sales (excluding South Korea) by more than 9.1 percent, the brand increased its market share to 2.25% in Turkey as well.
Kia Global announced that they sold 2,777,056 vehicles in 2021, an increase of 6.5 percent compared to last year. The brand's 2021 sales in markets outside of South Korea increased by 9.1 percent compared to last year, reaching 2,242,040 units, while its sales in South Korea amounted to 535,016 units. Kia increased its market share to 2.25% by selling 16,583 cars and light commercial vehicles in Turkey in 2021.
On a model basis, Kia's flagship and the admired player in the SUV segment, Sportage, ranked first in the 2021 global sales ranking with 363,630 units, followed by the SUV model Seltos, which was not sold in Turkey, with 298,737 units, and the Forte Sedan (Cerato) with 240,627 units.
Targeting global sales of 3.15 million units in 2022, Kia aims to sell 562,000 vehicles in South Korea and 2.59 million vehicles in markets outside of South Korea, according to regions.
In 2022, Kia aims to maintain its sales momentum by optimizing its production plans and minimizing the impact of supply chain disruptions, and to lead the global electric vehicle market with its unique electric transportation product line. Kia will also unveil several highly anticipated models this year, such as the Kia EV6 GT and the all-new Niro, reflecting the company's commitment to being a provider of sustainable transportation solutions. The Kia EV6 and New Niro are expected to arrive in Turkey in the third and fourth quarters of this year.
